Peer support specialists play a unique role in mental health treatment. Through their own “lived experience,” peer specialists offer hope and serve as models of recovery to people experiencing mental health challenges. This workshop answers questions such as: Why is peer support an effective model? What are current and future trends in peer support, both nationally and in North Carolina? Presenter Ron Mangum is well equipped to answer these questions: He has been managing the state’s peer support specialist program for the past nine years.
