Four important messages
we wish to get out to the public, to care givers, to seniors, and
to the medical community are: (1) Depression is not a normal part
of growing older, AND (2)Getting older does NOT EQUAL getting dementia,
AND (3)Seniors with physical illnesses are at risk of developing
a mental illness, AND (4) Recognizing the warning signs of depression
and responding by seeking help is the best step to preventing chronic
illness.
