LIFT Peer Support Internship

Now Accepting Applications!

Mental Health Greensboro is accepting applications for LIFT, a new equal-opportunity internship program for new Peer Support Specialists. The LIFT Internship program is open to NC Certified Peer Support Specialists looking to gain experience working in the North Carolina behavioral health system while promoting recovery and cultivating hope. LIFT is a 6-month program, with a weekly commitment of 10 hours. During this time the apprenticing NCCPSSs will have the opportunity to work directly with MHG peers through one-on-one sessions, facilitating Wellness Academy or Compeer classes, and facilitating/co-facilitating support groups.

Application Deadline: February 28, 2019
Selection Announcements: March 22, 2019
Program Start Date: April 1, 2019

The LIFT program was created to provide a structured work environment which supplements certification requirements for new peer support specialists. Interns will gain experience working in an office environment, using common tools like Microsoft Office and Outlook, documenting and maintaining case files, and managing their own mental health while providing support to others.

As part of the LIFT program, interns will undergo training and receive certifications for Mental Health First Aid and QPR Suicide Prevention, and have the opportunity to receive WRAP Facilitator certification. A successful LIFT intern will become skilled at supporting others through various means, not limited to:

  • Providing assistance to peers in the management of mental health challenges.
  • Developing positive relationships that provide social and emotional support.
  • Assisting peers in linking to community resources and services.
  • Helping to aid in the development of increased independence.
  • Promoting knowledge and adherence to SAMHSA recovery principles.

This is an unpaid internship, however upon completion of the program, interns will receive references for employment along with up to 25 CEUs (continuing education credits) from completed didactic sessions.

Application packets can be picked up at Mental Health Greensboro’s office (See Directions). All applications must be completed and returned by Thursday, February 28th. Spaces are limited to 3 interns for this program cycle. For full program details and requirements, visit the LIFT Program Page.
